NH-24 from Delhi to Dasna to be widened

TIMES NEWS NETWORK New Delhi: To improve the connectivity between Delhi and parts of Ghaziabad and Noida, the highways ministry has now sanctioned the widening of the 20-km stretch of NH-24. The existing 4-lane stretch between Uttar Pradesh border and Dasna will be widened to six lanes. The project will cost Rs 128 crore, according to an official document issued by the ministry of road transport and highways (MoRTH). The stretch will get five underpasses and 23 existing culverts will be widened. The document states that the government took this decision in response to the persistent demands of residents of Ghaziabad, Noida and Indirapuram, besides public representatives and media persons. Officials said the work would be awarded soon so that the task of widening starts at the earliest. U.P. Govt. Hikes Compensation For Aligarh Farmers

Faced with protests by farmers demanding higher compensation for land acquired for a township along the Taj Expressway, the Mayawati government on Tuesday decided to hike the price offered to them by 20 per cent at Rs 570 per square metre. A team of top state officials led by state cabinet secretary Sashankh Sekhar Singh and some senior ministers of the Mayawati government held parleys with farmer leader Ram Babu Kateria at the Aligarh airstrip in the early hours on Tuesday. Senior Superintendent of Police, Aligarh, Satender Veer Singh said that "The package offered by the state government includes the provision of raising the compensation price offered to the farmers to Rs 570 per square metre (about 20 per cent higher than the earlier price)". It is expected that the farmer leaders will place this offer before the kisan panchayat at the dharna site at village Jikarpur and seek its "ratification". National Highways To Get A Major Makeover

The government finally seems to have responded to the pleas of residents to ease traffic problems. Soon, NH 24, 58 and 91 will be broadened and around five underpasses will be built to ease traffic flow for vehicles moving from Noida, Indirapuram (Trans Hindon), Delhi and vice versa. Also, work on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway and Delhi Merut Expressway will begin soon. In a meeting held on Saturday last, the Kendriya Path Parivahan and Brahma Dutt, secretary of National Highway Ministry took a few important decisions to make traffic smooth in the long run. Now, property owners in Ghaziabad will have to shell out more money to get their houses registered. In a late night meeting on Saturday, the Ghaziabad Development Authority revised the circle rates, increasing it by 10-20 per cent. In Kaushambi, the present rate of Rs 40,000 per sq m has been revised to 45,000 per sq m. In Indirapuram, Ramprastha and Chandra Nagar the new rate is Rs 40,000 sq m; up from the earlier 35,000 per sq m. In Vasundhara, the present rate of Rs 26-28,000 per sq m has been hiked to Rs 28-30,000 per sq m. In Raj Nagar, the present rate of Rs 18-25,000 per sq m has been revised to Rs 2430,000 per sq m. In Lohia Nagar rates went up from Rs 20,000 to Rs 24,000. In Vijay Nagar, the existing rate of Rs 16-25,000 per sq m will be revised to Rs 16-26,000 per sq m.
